WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN

Podcasts About Investing

There are a lot of Australian investing podcasts. We recommend you listen to all of them to find the approach that is right for you.

Our podcast is primarily about “value investing”, the style of investing made famous by people like Warren Buffett.

Tony Kynaston, who I think of as “Australia’s Warren Buffett”, has developed a value investing checklist that helps us find good quality companies whose shares we can buy at a reasonable price. But if you don’t have the discipline to learn that approach, maybe start with “The Sammartino Method” — investing in index funds.

BEST INVESTING PODCASTS

If you’re looking for the best investing podcasts, there’s a few things we think you should look for.

1. ARE THEY PROFESSIONALS?

It’s fine to talk about ideas and theories, but I really want to listen to someone who makes a living investing, has invested across multiple cycles (ie bull and bear markets) and whose portfolio has performed well regardless of which cycle the market is in.

Tony’s portfolio has delivered an average of 19.5% per annum for over 25 years, which is Warren Buffet territory.

There’s a lot to be gained from listened to finance journalists and people who work in funds or banking, but, as Warren Buffett says “Wall Street is the only place that people ride to in a Rolls Royce to get advice from those who take the subway.”

2. IS THERE A SYSTEM?

If you don’t have a system to follow, one that removes the emotion and focuses on the facts, it’s easy to get pulled along with the current. Remember that if you want to learn to invest like Warren Buffett, you have to be counter-cyclical. The great thing about Tony’s QAV system is that he provides us with a checklist that we can all follow. It’s a step-by-step guide to finding value stocks to invest in.

3. ARE THEY SELLING SOMETHING?

A lot of podcasts and courses are trying to sell you their fund, their stockbroking service, or their book. And there’s nothing wrong with that, as long as you know what you’re getting. We also have a premium podcast for hardcore investors, but our main show is, and always will be, free. We aren’t running a fund or investing courses. Tony is a very successful private investor and doesn’t want (or need) your money.
